Findyourfield.

A second one-minute film for Voltway, the fictional energy-careers look on this shelf, in the same isometric 2.5D as the first. Where the first went from a single cell to a city, this one follows a single red thing down a sixty-five-tile production line: a drop in a mixing vessel, a bead in a pipe, a clip on the coated foil, the tab of a wound roll, a cell with a red band, a lit slot in the formation rack, a sealed tray and a truck driving off the end of the board. Five stations, people in red at each with a card for their work, and at the end the five fields of one sentence named on the line and joined. Every frame is rendered in your browser as it plays; the score is code, cut to the same bars.

NotesHOW IT IS MADE

One red thing

Red is kept for a single object that changes form as it travels: a drop, a bead in a pipe, a clip on the coated foil, a tab, a band round a cell, a lit slot, a seal on a tray. The camera follows it at the pace it moves, so the film is one long tracking shot down the line.

A relay of stations

Each station flips up out of the gray on a hit as the camera arrives, and adds an instrument to the score: piano and bells in the lab, machine ticks at the coater, kick and bass where the cells are made, hats and strings at the rack, the whole band at the dock.

Built on the beat

Cells leave the press on the eighth notes and the belt moves exactly one cell spacing per eighth, so the clack of the conveyor is the rhythm section. A cell hops into the tray on every eighth; a tray of twelve fills in a bar and a half.

The look's own words

Every line on screen comes from the Voltway look's copy — its pathways, its cards, its about text. One sentence is split across the film: the first material experiment at the coater, the final quality check at the gate. Voltway is fictional; nothing here describes a real company, plant or job.
